Freedom

I’m going to start exploring the concept of freedom. What does it mean to really be free. Free from the inside out. The kind of freedom that Victor Frankl learned what he was in a Nazi concentration camp, or the kind of freedom that Nelson Mandela discovered when he was imprisoned. I think that freedom is a deep desire inherit in every one of us. There is an intriguing line out of the book of Romans that says,

“For to vanity was the creation subjected, not voluntarily, but because of Him Who subjects it, in expectation, that the creation itself, also, shall be freed from the slavery of corruption into the glorious freedom of the children of God.” vs8:20-21

This verse may seem a bit obscure, but this idea that we are here subjected to vanity or futility and somehow through and in the midst of that, we would experience a freedom, a type of freedom that happens inside of us… that strikes a chord with me. It makes me think of so many movies where the character becomes so overwhelmed with everything that they finally hit a breaking point, they finally cant hold it all together and they let go, then they get this understanding, and this freedom and…. I don’t know what it is, but I’m going there.

I set a goal to begin posting on this blog by Jan 31

What makes us function? How do we work? I don’t expect to have the answers, but I sure have a lot of questions, and I intend to explore these questions here, on this blog. I figure that I can’t be the only guy out there who spends his time pondering these sorts of things. Obsessing over topics like, desire, drive, motivation, ethics, integrity, joy, success, planning, imagining, creating, living, working… the list goes on. When I was a kid I used to spend hours, pouring over one of my all time favorite books, The Way Things Work, by David Macaulay. I was fascinated by how things work and now that I’m all grown up… I’m still fascinated by how things work, particularly how we work, and I intend to share that fascination with you.  I’m a 29 year old man, husband, dad, entrepreneur, and writer of things. I don’t dare yet say that I am a writer quite yet, but I am a writer of things, so that’s a start.
